Seven hundred thirty members of “Cercle Richilieu,” French Catholic youth organization, are due in Israel tomorrow for a six-day visit, tourist officials announced here today. The group, it was said, will be the largest single Christian group ever to visit Israel at one time. Members of the Catholic clergy in Israel have helped organize the tour by the French Catholic youth.
A 36 percent increase in tourism this year, as compared with 1959, was noted in figures issued here today by the Government’s Central Bureau of Statistics. During the first seven months of this year, Israel was host to 72, 000 tourists, as compared with 53, 000 during the same period last year. An increase in tourism is also anticipated for the rest of the year, since despite the hot summer months the number of tourists is at present larger than during any previous summer season.
