Richard E. Gutstadt, San Francisco, has been named the director of the B’nai B’rith National Bureau of Membership with headquarters in Cincinnati, according to an announcement by Alfred M. Cohen, international president of B’nai B’rith. The Bureau of Membership is newly created to make a scientific study of the 60,000 members of B’nai B’rith in America with a view to developing a method for enhancing their usefulness in Jewish and civic activities and to increasing the membership.
Mr. Gutstadt has been executive director of B’nai B’rith District No. 4 since 1924 and his activities there have helped make that district outstanding in the matter of membership. He is a member of the B’nai B’rith Wider Scope Committee and a member of the National Finance Committee of B’nai B’rith.
In addition to his B’nai B’rith activities, Mr. Gutstadt is now serving his second year as campaign director of the National Jewish Welfare Fund in San Francisco and is a trustee of Temple Sherith Israel there. He has been an active worker in his city’s community chest campaigns and served on the directorate of the Jewish Committee on Personal Service in State Institutions. He has also been secretary of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society there.
Mr. Gutstadt will assume his new duties about Nov. 1st when he will make Cincinnati his home.
