Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, the Reform rabbinic seminary, will establish an Institute of Advanced Jewish Studies to intensify scholarly studies of religion, particularly in relation to the facets of modern civilization, Dr. Nelson Glueck, president of HUC-JIR, announced here today at a meeting of the college’s board of governors at the conclusion of the four-day National Leadership Mobilization of Reform Judaism.
The Institute will be opened in New York and will offer scholars and thinkers an opportunity for individual and collective research and study. The board also voted an appropriation of $100,000 to add a fifth floor to the college’s building in New York for additional library, classroom and faculty office space.
