In a memorandum forwarded today to Sir John Woodhead, chairman of the Palestine Partition Commission which has just completed a 14-week investigation in Jerusalem, Hadassah reiterates its opposition to the proposed division of the Holy Land on the ground that it would not “bring about peace between the Arab and Jewish peoples.” The memorandum was sent to the Jewish Agency in London for transmission to Sir John.

Pointing out that it had been possible to secure American Jewish support for Palestine “only because of the assumption of the mandate by great Britain and because of the confidence of the American public in Great Britain’s Pledge,” the document contends that the “partition scheme with its consequent drastic limitations of land available for close settlement will, if carried out, frustrate the hope of redemption of hundreds of thousands” of European Jews.
