A decision to raise $120,000 during the summer for the medical organization maintaining the hospitals and health centers and clinics in Palestine was taken at yesterday’s session of the Hadassah Convention here.
The budget for the entire year is $600,000. The expansion in the work of Hadassah includes the creation of educational facilities for the teaching of Jewish history to the members and for the study of Jewish problems in Palestine and the diaspora.
In addition to the Junior Hadassah, it was also recommended that a third Hadassah group be organized of young girls of the ages of twelve to eighteen as the “Younger Sisters” of the Junior Hadassah. This group is to be known as Hadassah Buds.
Steps to issue Jewish literature in Braille for the benefit of the Jewish blind throughout the country are being taken by the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, according to an announcement by Mrs. Walter Freiberg, president.
At present very little reading matter is available for the use of Jewish men and women who have lost their sight, except such transcriptions of general literature as have already been made in many languages. The National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods plans not only to provide for the adult blind but for the religious education of Jewish boys and girls who have lost their sight.
