Haganah, the Jewish self-defence movement, today announced that it will conduct a propaganda campaign throughout Palestine to discredit the Irgun Zvai Leumi and the stern Group, extremist underground groups.
The broadcast on the Haganah secret radio, “Voice of Israel,” pointed out, however, that it would not cooperate with the authorities in rounding up members of the opposition groups. “Neither dissidents nor the authorities will drag us into a civil war,” the announcer emphasized.
In pamphlets distributed by you the throughout Tel Aviv, the Haganah described the members of the two groups as “terrorists, gangsters, blackmailers and smugglers.” The pamphlets asserted that the extremists are not supported by the Jewish community of Palestine, and added that “the terrorists rob, smuggle and deal on the black market with stolen goods.” The distributors stopped, movies and theatre productions in order to hand out the Haganah statement.
