A new translation of the Haggadah into Serbo-Croatian has been printed just in time for use this Passover by the beleaguered Jewish communities in all parts of the former Yugoslavia.
The Haggadah was prepared by Eliezer Jajcanin, a rabbinical student in Israel who comes from the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. It was printed with funds provided by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
“The Haggadah includes complete instructions to permit even those who have never seen a seder before to conduct the ceremony,” a spokesman for the JDC said.
Communal seders were scheduled to be held this week in many cities in the former Yugoslavia, including Sarajevo; the Croatian cities of Zagreb, Split, Makarsha and Osijek; and in the Yugoslav capital of Belgrade.
