A story scene in Parliament followed the attack yesterday by the anti-Semitic Deputy Jerzabek upon H. Hainisch, President of the Austrian Republic. The occasion for the attack was an interview granted by President Hainisch to Pester Lloyd, attacking anti-Semitism. Jerzabek made the declaration that the President has trespassed his official capacity. Chancellor Seipel defended President Hainisch declaring that the latter had never concealed his opposition to anti-Semitism and that the President is entitled to his own private opinions.

The anti-Semitic press strongly criticises President Hainisch whose sympathetic stand for Jews has become known. President Hainisch is now accused of Jewish descent. The fact that President Hainisch’s wife is Jewish is well-known.
