Of 4,500,000 marks spent in 1936 by the Reichsvertretung der Juden in Deutschland for its activities, 2,400,000 marks came from the Council for German Jewry, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Colonization Association. Dr. Otto Hirsch, head of the central Jewish organization announced at a mass meeting.

Accounting for the past year’s record, Dr. Hirsch thanked foreign Jewish relief organizations, declaring German Jewry could not do without them.

Chief Rabbi Leo Baeck, presiding, urged internal unity among German Jews and warned against “playing politics.”

Dr. Franz Meyer, Zionist leader, reporting on emigration, said almost 100,000 Jews had left Germany since 1933, but emigration had decreased in 1936. The Reichsvertretung supervised 160 Jewish schools–30 more than in the previous year–which were attended by 22,000 children, or more than half of all the Jewish children in Germany of school age, it was reported.
