Secretary of State George C. Marshall today a press conference that the State department has no information that King Ab?ah of Transjordan has invaded or intends to invade Palestine. He emphasized that scopes a truce for Palestine can be worked out.
While Secretary Marshall was addressing the news conference, the Associated as distributed a report from Amman, Capital of Transjordan, quoting Abdullah as ##ing that his Arab Legion has occupied Jericho, 20 miles northeast of Jerusalem. ##illah said the force was made up of “scout troops which always precede the regular ###y.”The State department revealed today that it has recently refused to grant sports for Palestine “in a number country. A spokesman for the Department declared ##t in each case the applicant was told to reapply later “when conditions may be the normal.”
This action is in line with a policy formulated in1937, the spokesman pointes out. Every U.S. passport issued carries the stipulation that the holder does not send to serve in any foreign army. If he does, he immediately loses his right to objection as a U.S. citizen and his passport may be recalled. At the conclusion his military service with a foreign power, the U.S. may reconsider his status as American citizen.
The State Department spokesman emphasized that no applications have been received by the department for Palestine passports which have stated that the application intends to participate in hostilities there. The Department has no evidence at there are Americans now in Palestine fighting with any of the armed forces ?ere, he said.
