With the Liberal press declaring that the pardon of Philip Halsmann, charged with murdering his father, is not enough, and demanding a retrial in order to rectify a miscarriage of justice, Halsmann himself is planning to take steps to completely vindicate himself immediately after Yom Kippur. When he left the Innsbruck prison he was met by his mother and sister. On his arrival in Vienna, a free man for the first time since 1928, he found numerous letters of sympathy, including one from Marianne Hainisch, mother of former President Hainisch, and Austria’s leading feminist.

The anti-Semitic press considers the pardon due to the fact that President Miklas has been misled. The petition for young Halsmann’s pardon contained over 50,000 signatures including those of famous personages, among them Dr. Albert Einstein, and the pleas of international organizations, including the Red Cross.
