Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold was “very satisfied” with the talks he held in Israel during a two-day visit to Jerusalem from which he returned here this morning. He made that assertion upon returning to headquarters, saying he felt his entire trip–which had taken him also to Rome and Geneva–“proved a most useful one, and the contacts in Israel were no exception.” In Jerusalem, he conferred not only with Prime Minister David Ben Gurion but also with Foreign Minister Golda Meir, Maj. Gen. Moshe Dayan, chief of staff, and other leading members of the Israeli government.
Asked upon his arrival at the International Airport whether he plans to continue his private negotiations between Israel and Egypt, Mr. Hammarskjold replied: “I am not between anyone. I am acting on behalf of all members of the United Nations in discussions with all other members.”
