Indications received here from Germany point to a general hardening in the attitude of the German authorities toward Jewish restitution.

A dispatch received today quotes the Suddeutsche Zeitung as reporting that the authorities of the German states in the American zone have agreed not to handle “for the time being” compensation claims of persons who entered the U.S. zone of Germany after May 8, 1945. This would, in effect, deny compensation to the overwhelming majority of Jewish DP’s.
