Impressive services marked the fiftieth anniversary celebration of the founding of Congregation Chisik Emunah of Harrisburg, one of the oldest orthodox congregations in this country.
At the time of its founding the membership numbered less than fifty. Today it has a membership of close to three hundred.
The celebration extended over the entire week-end, beginning with special services on Friday evening, followed by a public reception in the vestry rooms of the synagogue. At the services on Saturday morning, Rabbi M. Etter delivered the special anniversary sermon.
At the banquet on Sunday evening which took place in the Jewish Community Centre of Harrisburg, addresses were delivered by Rabbi Eleazer Silver of Cincinnati; Rabbi David Silver and Rabbi M. Etter of Harrisburg, and Joseph Claster.
Cantor M. Lachmanowitz rendered a number of appropriate selections. Robert Rosenberg, a leader in Jewish communal life in Harrisburg, was toastmaster of the evening.
