Harry Herber, prominent South African Jewish communal leader and president of the Board of Jewish Education here, died last night at the age of 67. A philanthropist who took a great interest in educational matters, Mr. Herber also chaired many Zionist campaigns in South Africa and was at one time president of the Johannesburg United Hebrew Congregation.
Born in Lithuania, Mr. Herber arrived here as a youth and went to work as a clerk in a retail store. During the years he developed two of the four major retail chains in South Africa.
