Harry L. Glucksman, social service executive, for the past nineteen years executive director of the Jewish Welfare Board, died this morning at Mt. Sinai hospital after a long illness. He was 49 years old.
Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock Sunday morning at the Y.M.H.A., 92nd Street and Lexington Ave., with Rabbi Milton Steinberg of the Park Avenue Synagogue officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Glucksman occupied a large variety of positions in Jewish communal life, but his chief contribution were in the field of social service. He was a founder and a leading spirit in the development of the Jewish community center movement in the United States.
Born in New York City, he received his college education at New York University, specializing in economics and sociology. He began his career in 1912 as assistant secretary of the Jewish Big Brothers, and thereafter served as assistant and acting executive director of Y.M.H.A.’s in New York and New Orleans.
