Harry Robert Schewitz, a leader of the Jewish community here, was killed this weekend when he was hit by a car in the resort town of Muizenberg, Cape Province. He was 65.
Mr. Schewitz was active in several Zionist organizations and was the national organizer of South African Jewry’s United Communal Fund, the central organization raising monies needed by the national Jewish organizations for domestic purposes in this country. He was also grand president of the Hebrew Order of David, a fraternal movement, and former president of the order’s lodges in Pretoria and in this city.
