Sen. Vance Hartke, Indiana Democrat, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, said today that if the United States is to help France out of her fiscal difficulties and restore her NATO benefits. President de Gaulle should first release the 50 Mirage jet fighter-bombers built for Israel. The jets were impounded by de Gaulle as a result of the Six-Day War. Sen. Hartke charged the de Gaulle Government with a breach of contract and took notice of the Israeli payment already made on the purchase of the jets. The Senator indicated that he is considering offering legislation to implement his position when the new Congress meets in January.
