An elaborate display of valuable early books containing the writings of Maimonides is on exhibit now in the Treasure Room of Widener Library, Harvard University, in commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the birth of the great Jewish philosopher. The books are from the regular Harvard Library collection.
Among the items is a handwritten copy of a Harvard College commencement oration of about 1675. A quote from Maimonides is used in this oration in connection with John Harvard, who in 1638 gave his books and half his fortune to the college founded in 1636 by the General Court of the Colony of Massachusetts Bay.
