Ex-Minister Dr. George Gothein, President of the Union for Combating Anti-Semitism in Germany, attained his 70th birthday.
With Eamberger, Barth and Schrader, Gothein was for many years at the head of the German Liberal movement. He has been since 1893 a member of the Union for Combating Anti-Semitism, Lecoming President in June 1909 on the death of Theodor Barth.
After the Revolution, he joined the German Democratic Party, and he was Minister of the Interior in the first Republican Federal Government.
Dr. Gothein’s attitude on the Jewish question was summed up in the address he delivered to the Conference of the Union for Combating Anti-Semitism in Germany which was held last year at Cologne, when he said: “A German is he who speaks German as his mother tongue, feels himself German, and in time of need places his life at the service of the German Fatherland.”

While I was happy to be associated with the organization of the Palestine Economic Corporation and served as secretary up to approximately one year ago, the present secretary is Mr. Paul Singer.
