The Hills of Galilee were blanketed under nearly eight inches of snow today as Israel was pelted by winds, heavy rains and hailstorms that crippled much outdoor work and operations at the port of Haifa.
A pile-up of citrus scheduled for overseas shipment at the port led the Citrus Marketing Board to issue a nation-wide ban on further citrus picking until loading can be resumed at Haifa. The heavy rains caused damage to vegetable fields and supplies to towns were temporarily discontinued.
Most of the bad weather hit the north central and central parts of Israel while the parched Negev remained without adequate rainfall, posing a danger to the winter crops.
