Lachman. a member of the New York City Board of Education, has called upon the Hebrew Day School movement and its affiliated PTA groups to “reach out to our young people – both those who attend Hebrew Day Schools as well as those who attend public schools; both those we feel are in unison with us as well as those who might have strayed and are temporarily lost.” Speaking at the 20th annual Convention of the National Association of Hebrew Day School PTAs which was held In New York City, Dr. Lachman told Day School and PTA leaders to hear out these young people and not only to preach. “We must act with commitment and not despairingly. We must set an example of an eternal and vibrant tradition – of an active and socially conscious Judaism.”
