Support of the Rambam Hebrew Parochial School project, of the United Hebrew Schools of Newark, will be given by Jewish educators here, members of the Newark Hebrew Teachers’ Conference decided.
Resolutions to welcome the proposed school, and to adopt a program of 12 principles as a basis of education, were passed at the conference held at the Y. M. Y. W. H. A.
Under the “twelve points” drafted by Dr. Hirsch L. Gordon, superintendent of the United Hebrew Schools, a course, designed to give a comprehensive view of Jewish life, history and religion, will cover four years. Heretofore the course was planned upon an eight-year basis.
Hebrew is to be taught as a living language, but the vernacular will be used when necessary in other subjects. Judaism will be taught as a philosophy of life and the Bible will be a basis of study for the entire curriculum.
The conference voted also to back protests against persecution of Jewish teachers by the Soviet government in Russia.
The Congregation Ezrath Israel. Faulkner. Mass. will enlarge its synagogue and has commissioned Architect C. F. Springall to draw plans. Specifications have been prepared and bids will soon be asked for.
The improvements involve an outlay of over $20,000.
