The Hebrew Teachers College today formally dedicated its new building at the College site in Brookline. Philip W. Lown, national president of the American Association for Jewish Education, presided at the ceremonies which were attended by hundreds of civic and educational leaders and members of the Jewish community.
Benjam in Ulin, president of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, paid tribute to Dr. Eisig Silberschlag, dean of the college; to Leo Flax, president of the college; to George Michelson, immediate past president of the college, under whose guidance the plans for the new building were first projected; and to Abraham Goodman, chairman of the Development Fund Program. The new building includes seven new classrooms, faculty rooms and a cafeteria.
The Hebrew Teachers College, a non-theological institution, is the only New England College authorized to confer degrees of Bachelor of Jewish Education, Bachelor of Hebrew Literature, Master of Hebrew Literature and Doctor of Hebrew Literature. A total of 486 students are enrolled in the high school, college and graduate departments with another 104 enrolled in the Department of Adult Studies.
