A critical edition of the full Hebrew text of the Book of Enoch will be issued shortly by the Cambridge Press. The edition was prepared by Dr. H. Odeberg, Swedish scholar and includes a critical edition of the Hebrew text now printed in full for the first time, an English translation and full commentary and an introduction of 187 pages.
Canon Box, Davidson Professor of Old Testament Studies in the University of London, speaking of the forthcoming edition, declared:
“Dr. Odeberg’s conclusion as regards the main body of the book comprising chapters 3–18 A is that The time of composition or redaction which would best fit in with the various data considered above seems to be the latter half of the third century.
“A large amount of space is devoted to the angelology of the book, and more particularly to the mysterious figure of Metatron.
“This splendid edition of the Hebrew Book of Enoch–or as scholars may now call it. 3 Enoch–is a real contribution to scientific knowledge.”
