A report of progress under trying circumstances was made at the eleventh annual meeting of the Hebrew Theological College of Chicago. Rabbi Saul Silber, president of the college, explained that despite financial difficulties, the educational program of the college continued unbated.
Rabbi J. Greenberg, dean of the college, stated that of the 424 students in the institution about 100 come from outside Chicago. The majority of upper class students, he said, attend the secular universities in addition to their work at the Yeshiva, while some graduates devote themselves exclusively to Jewish studies. Graduates of the institution occupy forty prominent pulpits throughout the country.
Rabbi Samuel Siegel, treasurer, submitted the financial report which showed a total income for the year of $57,344.31 and total disbursements of $57,172.43, leaving a balance of $171.88. The percentage of disbursements was 45 per cent for faculty salaries.
Max Shulman, chairman of the nominating and resolutions committee, introduced a resolution calling for an immediate start of a campaign to secure 1,000 new members. A committee of fifty men was named to carry on the drive. It was also decided to name a Board of Directors of 65 members and an advisory board of 35 members, these two boards to conduct the affairs of the institution.
