The Hebrew Union School of Sacred Music will add a fourth year to its cantorial course and will offer–for the first time–a degree of Bachelor of Sacred Music to candidates who complete the four-year course, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion announced today.
The aim of the expanded program is to offer cantors, of all branches of Judaism, a wider program of preparation and to confer a degree which gives more adequate recognition to the musical competence and training of cantors. Candidates for the degree will be required to complete courses in language, literature and other academic course, in addition to courses in music and education.
