Hebrew University Sends Greetings to Toronto University on Centennial

Louis Fitch, vice-president of the Canadian Zionist organization, will represent the Hebrew University at the centennial celebrations of the University of Toronto, which takes place this week. Mr. Fitch has received a request from the governing body of the University to go to Toronto as its representative. He will take with him a parchment on which the official greetings of the Hebrew University are extended in the Canadian university.

The greetings, which are in Hebrew, read as follows:

“To the distinguished Governors of the University of Toronto:

“This festival with which the University of Toronto is celebrating the hundredth anniversary of its foundation, comes as glad tidings to all who revere wisdom an ##esteam knowledge.“At the Centenary, the University may look back with pride on 100 years of continuous growth, during which the influence of its knowledge and wisdom has spread throughout the length and breadth of Canada.

“On this joyous occasion we would ask you to accept our sincerest wishes and heartfelt blessing–the blessing of the youngest among universities, a university which is doing pioneer work for the spiritual revival of the New Palestine in Jerusalem, the Holy City, mankind’s spiritual centre, to an elder sister, w## has behind her a century of fruitful work in the cause of knowledge and research in Canada, the New Country beyond the seas.

“It is our earnest prayer that the years which lie before your University may be years of continued expansion and prosperity, years in which you may further contribute in peace and concord to the glory of learning. May your house be blessed and may the fruit of your labors add to the honor of your nation and the pride of your land.”

The document bears the signature of Dr. Chaim Weismann, president of the World Zionist Organization, on behalf of the Board of Governors.

Octavos Cohen, sixty-eight prominent attorney of Chalresion, S. C. and father of Octavos Roy Cohen short story waiter died on Thursday.

Mr. Cohen was born in Montgomery Ala., he founded the Charleston Sunday budget. He was at one time editor of the Charleston World. Since 1## he had practiced law in Charleston.

Under the name of the Jewish Community of Ventnor N. J. a congregation was organized there and held its first services this week.

The chairman of the congregation is Emanuel Biron and Glickman is secretary.

Plans have been adopted for the erection of a synagogue.
