Hebrew Week, set aside annually for propagating the Hebrew language and Hebrew literature among the American Jewish youth, is being observed this week.
Over seventy Hebrew schools and Talmud Torahs have joined in celebrating Hebrew Week, during which a fund of $25,000 is being sought by the organizations sponsoring the work. The week was proclaimed by the Histraduth Ivrith, Hebraists’ organization, and the Hebrew Teachers Association. The fund is required to carry on the cultural activities of these organizations, the publication of the “Hadoar,” Hebrew weekly and the “Shevilei Ha’chinuch,” Hebrew pedagogical journal. The Hebrew publisining company, “Ogen,” created by the Histadruth Ivrith is also to benefit from the fund.
A new book, “Sepher Ha’massoth,” essays on modern Hebrew literature by Menachem Rybalow was recently published by the “Ogen.”
The committee in charge of the Hebrew Week campaign includes Rev. Z. H. Masliansky, Dr. S. Bernstein, Dr. N. Turow, Abe Goldberg and Rabbi I. H. Levinthal.
