The Daily Express reports from Berlin today that a Dr.Max Hellman, under arrest for violation of the Nuremberg racial laws, has plunged himself into deeper difficulties by an attempt to subpoena Chancellor Adolf Hitler as a witness. According to the dispatch, an “appalled” court refused to grant the subpoena and Dr. Hellman is now awaiting further charges for insulting the Fuehrer.

The subpoena as drafted by the defendant had declared it was “useless for the Herr Witness (Hitler) to send a representative.” It demanded that “Hitler, at the request of the accused, give evidence before the court on the content of his speeches which the accused heard on the radio,” since the accused was raising certain points with regard to the legislation under which he was being held.
