Herbert Millman, who served as a Jewish community center executive for several decades, died Sunday in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Millman, who was 85, was born in Kiev, Russia.
He was a longtime resident of Rye, Westchester County, New York.
Millman was a former executive vice president of the Jewish Welfare Board, which changed its name in 1990 to the Jewish Community Centers Association of North America.
From 1976 to 1979, he was executive director of the World Federation of Jewish Community Centers.
He also served as president of the Association of Jewish Center Workers, officer of the National Conference Of Jewish Communal Service and president of the International Conference of Jewish Communal Service.
He also was the president of the Community Synagogue in Rye.
Millman received several awards and held a number of honorary positions.
His career began in the 1930s, when he was a volunteer and then a staff member of the Young Men’s Hebrew Association in Springfield, Mass.
