A motion for the dissolution of Knesset and new elections, offered by the right-wing Herut party, was rejected yesterday by a 38-19 Knesset vote.
Challenging last spring’s Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the Sharm of Sheikh areas and Prime Minister David Ben Gurion’s endorsement of an early establishment of diplomatic relations between West Germany and Israel. Herut deputy Arieh Ben Eliezer introduced his motion with a charge that recent government policy did not represent the majority view of the people. He asked the government to obtain a new man date from the electorate. Baruch Azania, Mapai deputy, described the motion as “frivolous.”
