Preparations for the transfer of the remains of Dr. Theodor Herzl, father of political Zionism, from this city to Palestine were completed here today, according to an announcement by the committee appointed for this purpose. The remains will be shipped to Palestine early in the spring of 1935.

The transfer of Herzl’s remains will be utilized for large pro-Palestine demonstrations in Austria, Poland, Rumania and other East European countries where large Jewish communities exist. The program for the transfer provides that the remains are to pass through Poland and Rumania in order to give the Jews of as many countries as possible the opportunity to participate in final tributes for the great Zionist leader.

PROPOSE STATUE

The question of whether the remains of Dr. Herzl are to be buried in Jerusalem or Haifa is under discussion in Palestine. M. Ussishkin, Jewish National Fund head, is leading the group which demands that Jerusalem be the place of burial. He suggests that the remains be buried in Hebrew University ground on Mount Scopus.

Others suggest Haifa, proposing that a statue of Herzl, similar to the state of Liberty in America, be built there, to enable passengers of arriving steamers to see the Herzl monument from a distance. The final decision as to where the remains are to be buried lies in the hands of the Palestine Executive of the Jewish Agency.

AUSTRIA PROMISES AID

The sum of ten thousand schillings has been assigned for the transfer of the remains from Vienna to Palestine. This amount is bequeathed by Johann Kremenetzky, a leading Zionist philanthropist of Austria, who died recently.

The Austrian government has promised to facilitate the transfer of Herzl’s remains without any difficulties. The daughter of Dr. Herzl, only member of the Herzl family still alive, has given her approval to the transfer.
