The coffins containing the remains of Dr. Theodor Herzl’s parents and sister were reinterred today in a single grave on a slope of Mt. Herzl here, some 1,000 feet from the grave of the founder of the Zionist movement who was reburied here Wednesday.
The ceremony marking the reburial of Dr. Herzl’s family was modest, with a small military guard of honor and several hundred elder Zionists and a number of representatives of the Jewish Agency participating in the rites. Kaddish was recited by Agency executive member S.Z. Shragai as the coffins were lowered into their final resting-place. Kaddish was also recited over the grave of Dr. Herzl following the reinterment of his family.
The area in the Negev between the settlements of Nirim and Revivim was officially named today “Chevel Herzl,” meaning Herzl District.
