Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Chaim Herzog, yesterday denounced the speech by the Yugoslavian Foreign Minister Milos Minic made to the General Assembly as the most hostile anti-Israel address yet made in the UN by any Third World nation. “World Jewry has to pay attention to this hostile attitude of the Yugoslavian government.” Herzog told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
In his speech, delivered Sept. 24, Minic urged sanctions against Israel for allegedly defying UN resolutions. He said the situation in the Mideast constituted the most immediate danger to world peace and claimed that Israel’s policy of “aggression, occupation and denial of the national rights of the people of Palestine” is responsible. Minic said that if Israel “persists in its present behavior, then nothing else remains but to undertake resolute steps, including such measures as provided in Chapter 7 of the Charter,” Chapter 7 calls for sanctions against nations that defy UN resolutions.
