Action to relieve the distress of several hundred refugee families holding immigration visas for countries in the Western Hemisphere has been taken by the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society, Abraham Herman, president, stated today.
Responding to an urgent telephone appeal from the HIAS-ICA headquarters in Lisbon, HIAS made its first remittance in the amount of $25,000. The fund is necessary to facilitate the emigration of the refugees who have already complied with all immigration regulations and are in possession of immigration visas to the United States and other countries, but face the danger of losing their chances if their departure is delayed.
