In recognition of five years which he spent in Europe as a special commissioner for the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society, a dinner was tendered to Dr. James Bernstein, Sunday night at the Hias Building, New York City. The dinner was attended by leading communal and philanthropic workers.
Dr. Bernstein, who left the United States in November, 1924, established his headquarters in Berlin and gave special attento in to the unification of the various immigrant relief agencies functioning in Europe which finally resulted in the formation in April, 1927, of the Hias-Ica-Emigdirect.
