The United Hias Service closed its three-day international conference here with an announcement to the United Hias officials from 14 countries by Louis Horowitz; director of overseas operations, that the migration agency had helped 4,000 Jews, for whom emigration provides the only chance to start a new life, are still registered.

Mr. Horowitz expressed optimism about the future, since, he said, there is a well founded hope that the next session of the United States Congress will extend the Refugee Relief Act and that there will be some major amendments in the American immigration law. Canada too, he added, had liberalized its immigration policy. A Bregman, chairman of the organization’s executive, and James Rice, its acting executive director reported that the group plans to move 6,500 persons during 1957.
