About thirty thousand German-Jewish refugees are reported in various European countries by the delegates at an extraordinary conference of the Hicem which opened here today. Delegates from England, France, Belgium, Spain, Holland, Poland, Switzerland, and other European nations are present to consider means of aiding these refugees to permanent settlement. Their numbers are steadily increasing, the delegates affirm.

Hicem, which is an amalgamation of three immigrant aid societies: Hias, Emigdirect, and Ica, is endeavoring to settle as many of the refugees as possible in the countries to which they have fled, and to fascilitate the emigration of others to America, Canada, South America, Palestine, and other foreign lands. In spite of unprecedented difficulties due to world economic conditions, the conference reports that it is hopeful of good results.
