Colonial Secretary Malcolm MacDonald informed the House of Commons today that steps have been taken to empower the High Commissioner for Palestine to prohibit and regulate land transfers in the Holy Land, in accordance with the terms of the White Paper. His powers will be retroactive to May 18, Mr. MacDonald announced.
A group of Conservative M.P.’s today submitted a third amendment to the Government’s notion approving the White Paper, urging the Government to create a Jewish State centering in British Guiana.
The British Zionist Federation last night adapted a resolution endorsing the Jewish Agency’s rejection of the White Paper. Action followed an address by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, who denounced the new policy as ambiguous and acting frankness but made a strong appeal for peaceful methods in combatting it.
