High Ex-nazi Security Officers Face Trial for Killing 11,000 Jews

Six former high officers of the Nazi Security Service and police will go on trial here, May 14, accused of having murdered 11,000 Jews, including men, women and children, between July and October 1941, in German-occupied territory in Russia, the prosecutor’s office announced today. The trial is expected to last 16 days.

The principal defendant is Alfred Filbert, 56, an attorney and former high officer in Hitler’s Elite Guard, He is accused of having not only ordered the murder of 11,000 Jews, but also of having done some of the killing in person, When he was arrested, three years ago, he was holding a job as the manager of a bank here.

The others were allegedly subordinates of Filbert. They are Gerhard Schneider, 51, who had been employed as a councillor by a Ministry in the State Government at Hannover; Bodo Struck, 53, former high police official at Hannover; Wilhelm Greiffenberger, 61, a bookkeeper, of Bavaria; Konrad Fiebig, 52, formerly employed in a Federal office in Munich; and Heinrich Tunnat, formerly deputy manager of the Chamber of Trades at Olderberg. All are accused in the death of several thousand Jews.
