The high price of kosher meat in Britain–which is a sore point with Jewish housewives–will be fully investigated by the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, it was reported today. Following several prosecutions of Jewish butchers by the Ministry of Food for price overcharges, the Council threatened to suspend Kosher meat licenses for repeated convictions.
The question of Jewish ritual slaughter, which in recent weeks has been made a public issue by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, has produced a large number of letters in the weekly Picture Post, Britain’s equivalent of Life magazine. Most of the letter writers oppose ritual slaughter and many demand a petition to the Home Secretary on the subject while others suggest a law banning the traditional Jewish method of slaughter.
