The need for an effective counselling program for Jewish students in American colleges and universities was emphasized here this morning at the national conference of B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation directors by Rabbi Harry Kaplan, director at Ohio State College. Rabbi Maurice Pekarsky, Hillel director at the University of Chicago, led a panel discussion on the training and orientation of Hillel leadership.
Frank Trager, program director of the Anti-Defamation League, emphasized Hillel’s responsibility in encouraging students to work toward a more just society. “Colleges and universities must not wait for a change in attitude in the outside world; educators and students must assume leadership in eliminating backward and reactionary attitudes,” Trager declared.
