Freedom for India from British rule must be secured by her own strength and not with the help of such “dubious friends” as Germany, the Hindustan Times (Nationalist) said today in an outspokenly critical editorial on Nazi methods. The son of Mohadas K. Gandhi is closely connected with the newspaper.
Referring to the recent speech at Madras by Dr. Hjalmar Schacht, former head of the Reichsbank who is now touring India, the editorial said:
“Nazism is based on the exploitation of weaker peoples for the benefit of Germany. The Indian does not want freedom from British imperialism merely to become the victim of Nazi tyranny. The fate of the German Jews should warn us of what will befall us in the event of our establishing friendly relations with Germany.”
