Aharon Becker, secretary-general of Histadrut, Israel’s Federation of Labor, said here today that “the Histadrut would not allow any further increases in Israeli workers’ current standard of living, but would fight every effort to lower that standard. ” Noting that Israeli workers have tripled their standard of living since independence 15 years ago, Mr. Becker said he opposed further increases, “in the light of the current economic struggle of our country.”
Mr. Becker is in the United States at the invitation of AFL-CIO President George Meany. He made his statements in a radio interview here. Referring to recent wildcat strikes in Israel, he said that these will not be tolerated in the future.
