The executive committee of the Histadrut, the Jewish Labor Federation of Israel, voted down a proposal to invite a delegation of the World Federation of Trade Unions to visit Israel. The leftist-controlled federation had requested an invitation to enable its representatives to inquire why the Histadrut had withdrawn from membership in the international body.
The decision not to extend the invitation was taken by a vote of 32 to 16 after a stormy session in which the left-wing Mapam Party members in the committee pressed for the invitation and frequently clashed with the Mapai majority.
