The Central Committee of the Histadruth, Palestine Jewish labor organization, today decided to send two delegations to Soviet Russia, one to deal with problems of medical relief and the other “to encourage the Russian workers in their fight against Hitler.”
This is the first time since the outbreak of the Communist revolution in Russia that organized Jewish labor in Palestine has decided to come in contact with the Soviet Government, as Zionism has officially been prohibited in Soviet Russia as ” a movement supporting British imperialism”. It is hoped here that a change in the Soviet policy with regard to the Zionist movement may now develop as a result of the present war in which Russia and Britain fight as Allies.
The forty-second Histadruth conference today adopted a resolution of “warm encouragement” for Soviet Russia. The delegations which the Histadruth has decided to send will be instructed to maintain relations with the Soviet Government in order to ascertain what type of aid the Palestine labor movement can extend to Russia.
Another resolution adopted at today’s conference expresses opposition to the law against strikes and lockouts, which the Palestine Government is now preparing for promulgation.
