Preparation of a history of the Jewish community of Los Angeles, which now claims to be the second largest in the world, has begun under the joint sponsorship of the Southern California Jewish Historical Society and the Los Angeles Jewish Federation-Council, it was announced today. The study will be completed in 1961.
Rabbi Max Voorspan, registrar of the University of Judaism, is research director of the project which will be under the general editorial supervision of Prof. Allan Nevins, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, who is co-director, with Dr. Moshe Davis, of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Justin G. Turner, president of the Southern California society, said a permanent exhibit would be set up of material assembled in research on the project.
