The Nazi government in Berlin has decided to take measures “for a radical solution of the Jewish problem in all conquered territories and possibly also in the countries allied with Germany,” the correspondent of Gazette de Lausanne, a Swiss newspaper, reports today from Berlin.
The correspondent quotes the German press as stating that the new “radical measures” will be taken in retaliation for “the hostile attitude of international Jewry against Germany.” The nature of these measures is not disclosed. The Gazette de Lausanne is inclined to believe that they will include, among other things, the introduction of ghettos for Jews in all countries of Europe which are either occupied or dominated by Germany.
The Nazi press, led by Hitler’s Voelkischer Beobachter and by Goebbels’ Dar Angriff, does not let a single day go by without featuring anti-Jewish articles and pictures on its front pages. Under the headline “Jews must work,” the Angriff publishes photos showing how Jews with shovels in their hands are forced to do slave labor on the Eastern front under the supervision of Gestapo agents.” We are now waging our war against World Jewry, it is therefore understandable why the Jews do not feel so happy doing the labor which we enforce upon them,” the Angriff writes.
The Nazi radio stations, echoing the Nazi press, have broadcast for the last forty-eight hours a flood of anti-Jewish propaganda, in which Dr. Weizmann and American Jewish leaders are severely attacked. The Italian radio stations have similarly intensified their anti-Jewish broadcasts.
