Hitlerism was described as an “unsound movement, a craze and sometimes, I feel, a curse” by Dr. John Biegeleisen, professor at the Eden Theological Seminary in Et. Louise, in an address before the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs at a joint meeting here.
Educated and reared in Germany, Dr. Biegeleisen declared he was “unable to understand how educated Germany can swallow Nazism.” German culture, he said, is being ruined.
“Hitlerism has created a fear in the heart of every European,” he added. “Hitler’s appeal for a unified race has cast the shadow of war over all Europe.”
A similar address was given by Dr. Biegeleisen before the Immanuel Lutheran Church banquet. His talks, it was declared, markedly strengthened anti-Nazi feeling in the Fox River valley, which is predominantly German in population.
